I've visited CDMX twice this past year and both times I attended classes at Lengua y Cultura. The professors are... welcoming, encouraging, and resourceful with lots of recommendations of the best things to see in Mexico City that you won't find in a guidebook. The classes have a relaxed and fun atmosphere and at the same time they are packed with information. I promise your Spanish will improve by leaps and bounds by the end of the week. My last visit I took private lessons with Guillermo and it helped me immensely. He really built his lesson plans around where I was at and helped fill in the many huequitos in my grammar. Believe me, if you are in CDMX and want to improve your Spanish this is the place to go!read more

I visited L&C Spanish school in CDMX for a few days to take a crash course in Spanish. I booked the classes - last... minute - the night before and everything worked out perfectly: The next day I was welcomed by the very kind receptionista and my Spanish level was evaluated within a few minutes. I was assigned to a small group of students, which was perfect to have plenty of interaction with the teacher. The lectures were organized very well: It consisted of Speaking, Understanding and Writing parts (and Homework tambien). I liked that there was a lot of speaking exercise and interaction with the teacher and students, which guarantees a fast progress in daily life speaking! Especially, I appreciated that the teacher understood how to motivate students and to create a good learning atmosphere.

I strongly recommend Lengua y Cultura and all the surrounding administrative etc. parts of it!

I really loved my experience here. I got to meet several teachers while I was there and found they all where very... educated, knew their craft, and wanted all of us to succeed. Learning a new language isn’t always easy and it really helped knowing I had partners at the school who created an environment that really helped us all learn. Completely disappointed in the way this business is run! Boyfriend and I recently moved to CDMX and needed to learn... Spanish since we work and live here. After speaking with Marco Tellez (director of Lengua y Cultura), we came to the conclusion that private Spanish lessons would be the best option/program for us. The price was expensive, but that was expected since we wanted flexibility in scheduling in case of work, travel, etc. Before signing up, Marco promised us great things from Lengua y Cultura; things that competing businesses did not offer/weren't able to. First and foremost, he promised us quality teachers who are qualified to teach the language at an institutional level. Second, the teacher would speak fluent English and Spanish. And lastly, the teacher would have his/her own concrete lesson plan to supplement the books. That was on point with what we wanted/expected, so we signed up to start.

The first teacher assigned to us failed to meet all three criterias that Marco had promised. He introduced himself to us as a tutor, was not able to understand our questions whenever we asked, and had no lesson planned for the four days that we had him. Our lessons were comprised of reading and listening to materials straight from the book, using our phones to translate whenever we didn't understand something, and searching for a YouTube video on something irrelevant to anything we were learning. We wanted to give this 'teacher' a full week before jumping to conclusion, but just couldn't so we contacted Marco to explain how the lessons were going. He appeared shocked saying that the teacher "seemed capable of speaking English" when they had talked and "does have a lesson plan". At this point, we also disclosed that we don't want to waste anyone's time, and that we can just consider it a lost for that first week and go elsewhere, but he kept reassuring that the new teacher will work out. After much back and forth, Marco said he would send us a new teacher and that they would be up to par with what we all agreed on.

Fast forward to next week, we meet the new teacher, and first lesson goes well for that Monday (1/22). She could speak English (though not fluently) and Spanish, was able to answer our questions, and had supplemental materials in additional to the book. Three days later, we get a message from her on the morning of (1/25), saying that our class for the day is cancelled. So we thought, sure, not a big deal, maybe just a one time thing and wouldn't happen often. Next morning (1/26), another cancellation and then it was the weekend so we just thought we would pick it up again on Monday. Monday (1/29) came and another cancellation. See the frustration? Lessons were on and off for the next week and a half, and in between all this, the teacher texted saying that she would reach out to Marco to see if someone could substitute. We thought this was in the works, but when we reached out to Marco to once again reassess this whole private lessons, he had no idea. He said he was unaware, but that he would try to find us a third teacher.

My question here is...if you are the director of this business, how are you unaware of what your teachers/staff are doing (i.e. do you even check in on them? would you even know if they came to teach or not? why should the clients/students have to keep tabs on the teachers?). We paid a premium so that we would get quality service and teachers who would do their job, but it seems like we have to micromanage this whole thing. Anyways, we told Marco we were pretty much done with the program since it was clearly not working out and to please refund us minus the cost for the books/materials. In total, we've paid for 60 hours, but only had 12 hours of concrete lessons.

I do not recommend this place at all, especially if you are looking for high quality, private Spanish lessons and teachers. If anything, it only adds to more frustration and disappointment.

I'm currently taking a Pre Intermediate course at Lengua y Cultura. I have enjoyed the lessons and especially with... Edgar who has proved to be not only patient but well prepared. This has been very motivating for Spanish learning. The school also has great hours for people who have FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL JOBS in the city which I think may account for a large percentage of the immigrant population who yes, are in Mexico City because they are highly qualified in their field. This is in capitals because I've been looking for a Saturday class for years as it is challenging for me to study during the week as I am one of those people. I initially started on an evening course and Lengua y Cultura have been very flexible at helping me transfer to a Saturday course.read more

In total I took 12 weeks of classes at Lengua Y Cultura, 5 days a week, 3 hours a day. Lengua y cultura is a great language school. I have been taking both group and private classes and I highly recommend... both. The teachers are great and will adjust the classes to your needs. I started taking group classes on a daily basis when I first arrived in Mexico City to prepare for an internship at a Mexican organization.
